Isaac's New Skill

So apparently Isaac has taught himself to read because I haven't worked on that with him yet. I have made sure he knows his letters and the sounds and his colors and shapes and everything that a three-year-old should know, but he has figured out how to sound out the letters and read simple words. (I'm sure he gets this ability to just figure things out from his genius father.)
Will is also learning to read and has been doing very well with the sight words and simple books he gets at Kindergarten. He has had some homework where he has to sound out words or do rhyming or things like that and if Isaac is in the room he will jump in with the answer every time. Will gets very frustrated that Isaac won't let him do his own homework. Will knows the answer too, but surprisingly Isaac is right there with him.
The other night at dinner I decided to test Issac and see what he could really read so I started writing words and having him sound them out. Now that has become his favorite "game".
I took some video today of him reading a few words. My handwriting was a bit of a problem on DOG. He thought it said POC or DOC, but other than that you can see what he can do. What a smart boy!

I just walked into the bathroom to see what Isaac was doing because I could hear him playing in the water in the sink. I found that he had filled the sink with water, turned it off and then he stuck his face down in the water and was drinking out of the sink. Ewwwww! I guess it could have been worse-it could have been the toilet or something-but. . . ewwwww!

Reflections

Savannah had two entries in the Reflections contest at her school this year. This was the first year she entered and she was very excited about her projects and the assembly and the awards that went along with it. One of her entries was a drawing and the other was a clay sculpture. She did a really good job on them and it was fun to go see her at the school in the assembly. She didn't win a trophy like she had hoped, but she got a medal and a ribbon so that was exciting. All my pictures turned out blurry. Sorry, but here you go anyway.

Halloween and Sick (But not from all the Candy)

I saw this picture about the swine flu on my friend Cindy's blog and I thought it was funny.

It didn't used to be so hard to post more than twice a month. I don't know where the time goes. . . Anyway, the boys were all sick for the week before Halloween. Will got it first with a cough, runny nose, sore throat and fever. Robby started to feel some of the same symptoms a couple days later and then Isaac started in with it. Will seemed to be better after a couple of days so I sent him back to school and then Isaac seemed to get a lot worse so I took him to the Instacare where (after waiting for TWO hours) they diagnosed him with croup and prescribed a steroid to open up his lungs. The next morning Will was significantly worse again so we went to the Pediatrician and they checked Will for Flu. It was negative and they said it was a virus of some sort and to just wait it out. The good news for me was that they had a few doses of the Seasonal Flu Vaccine left so I was able to get that while we were there.
I was hoping that we would all be well before Friday for the Halloween festivities, but unfortunately Isaac was still sick. Luckily for my kids, my dad picked up Will and Savannah and they were able to go trick-or-treating at his office on Friday. My sister was nice enough to email me some pictures. I was really sad that I couldn't go with them and on to my mother-in-law's office too. Savannah and my mom collected some candy for Isaac and he was very happy when they came home with treats for him too.

On Halloween we spent the day clearing out the vegetable garden and getting the yard ready for winter. It was hard work and we were all pretty worn out. Isaac was doing much better at this point, but he still had a slight fever that morning so I didn't feel good about letting him go trick-or-treating at the ward party that night. So Isaac stayed in the car with Robby and handed out candy at the trunk-or-treat while I walked around with the other two. It was fun and the kids got doughnuts, apple juice and lots of candy. I feel bad that I didn't even take a single picture. It's a good thing I got some pictures of the kids in their costumes when we went to the Dinosaur Park.
