Kid's Concert

Savannah wrote the music and the words to a song and then the kids performed it for us with Savannah on keyboard, Will with the vocals and Isaac on drums. Very creative!

Burton Reunion

Last Friday we drove to Salem for a family reunion for my mom's side of the family. All of my aunts and uncles were there and a lot of my cousins came so it was a lot of fun.
We got there and had lunch and then it was on to the games and activities. My uncle had a pinewood derby track and he had the kids (with the help of an adult) carve a car out of a potato and put wheels on it. The kids were very excited to race their potato cars. Unfortunately none of them did very well, but they had fun watching the races anyway.

After the spudwood derby we played a very entertaining game of The Price is Right. My cousin and her husband did a great job with this game complete with the music from the show and everything. Then we had some time to hang out and play volleyball, cards or basketball before dinner. They even had a little craft for the kids.
After dinner we played Don't Forget the Lyrics and our team was in the lead until we got to the third round where we only knew 1 word on about 3 or 4 songs in a row and that pushed us back to 4th place. Awwww.
Next came the talent show and Will jumped up there first to show off his arm pit farting talent. It got a lot of laughs. I'm just glad he's not too shy to participate. We finished the evening together by doing a multiple choice quiz about my grandpa's life and I was suprised by how much I learned about him.
Most people were staying in a hotel but we opted to pitch our tent in my uncle's backyard. He graciously offered to let Sarah and I stay in their guest bedroom inside. The kids were very excited to sleep in the tent and were so wound up they didn't go to sleep for quite awhile. Poor Robby. I don't think he got much sleep that night at all.
The next morning I went outside to see if they were up and help get things cleaned up to go get some breakfast. Savannah and Will were playing on my uncle's playground and Isaac and Robby were still in the tent. I was just heading to the car with the first load of stuff when Savannah started screaming. At first I thought she was just playing, but then I saw that she was really scared. She hopped off the tire swing and went running across the yard to the tent. I ran after her and discovered that she had been stung by bees on her legs 4 times. She is very scared of bees, so she was pretty upset. She has never been stung before so we didn't know how she would react. Robby is allergic and swells up huge when he gets stung so we were afraid that she would too but luckily Robby had some Benedryl with him so I went inside to get a glass of water. Taking the tiny little Benedryl pill was almost as traumatic as the beestings. I even broke it in half for her and told her over and over to put it in the back of her mouth and take a big gulp of water but it took forever for her to get it down. She spit water all over herself and almost lost the pill too a few times but finally she got it down. Luckily she didn't swell up too bad and the stings didn't end up bothering her too much.

After breakfast we headed to the bowling alley and we all bowled a game. The kids were thrilled!

She even got to use a pink ball.

It was Isaac's first time bowling.

I took some video of the kids bowling. They all had a different approach. It was fun to watch them play. Savannah ended up winning with a score of 115. (Much better than my 89).

Air Force Museum

On Saturday the 10th we went to the Air Force museum. We didn't realize how early they close so we had to kind of run through it. I think we'll go back again sometime soon and spend more time.

Catching Up

Warning: Extremely long journal post with no pictures. Feel free to read if you want to or skip to the next post with some pictures.
Where did July go? We have been having so much fun that there hasn't been much time for blogging. We had such a fun week over the 4th of July weekend, but I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't take a single picture of all the festivities. How sad is that? I know. I have resolved to do better over the next two weeks as we have some more fun things coming up. So. . . back to the beginning of July. Robby's sister Jaimee, who is in town from Virginia, came up and watched all seven of our kids while I went to the temple to do baptisms with the Young Women. The kids were thrilled and had a blast playing together and I think they were pretty good for Jaimee while I was gone. It was really fun to visit with them.
The next day Robby took the day off of work and we went to the South Jordan Rec Center to go swimming with all of Robby's family, well, the ones who were in town anyway. It is a really fun place with a bunch of stuff for the kids, a waterslide and a lazy river. I was excited to get Sarah into her swimsuit for the first time (HOW DID I NOT GET A PICTURE OF THAT? SERIOUSLY!) and see how she likes swimming. She did OK for a couple of minutes while I dipped her feet in the water but then some kid ran past and splashed us and she was screaming her head off. It was really loud in there too so I think it was a little overwhelming for her. Robby wasn't feeling well that day (he had been suffering with a cold for a week before that) so he took Sarah while I tried to keep track of the other three. They, of course, had a blast and wanted to stay all day. Savannah had tried the waterslide the last time we were there and so she wasn't nervous about doing it by herself this time but Will was too small last time so he had never done it. They won't let you go down with them on your lap and they have to be able to get back to the side by themselves at the bottom so he was pretty nervous about it. He wasn't quite tall enough, but Robby's dad thought he would be fine so he took him up with the other bigger kids. I stayed at the bottom to watch how he would do. He had a brief moment of panic at the bottom that first time, but then he was fine. He was so proud of himself for doing it by himself too. He went down that thing about 35 times.
After swimming we went backt to Robby's parents houes and got cleaned up and had a BBQ and played until it got dark. Then Robby's dad and his brother did a bunch of fireworks for us to all watch. It was great and the kids loved it! By then it was about 11:30 and the kids were completely worn out. They all piled into the tent in the backyard and Robby's dad and his brother slept out there with all the kids. Robby slept in his hammock just outside the tent. Sarah and I were lucky enough to get a bedroom inside the house.
The next morning the kids were up at about 7:00 and ready to play again. What is better than playing with cousins for three days straight? We hung out and played all morning and afternoon and then we packed up and came home. The kids were sooooooo exhausted and weepy. There is a reason they don't stay up until midnight regularly.
On Monday the 5th, Robby, my dad and his dad took our kids and Jaimee's hiking in Bountiful up the Elephant Rock trail while my mom and I and Sarah and Isaac hung out at a great picnic site in Mueller Park canyon and waited for them. When they came back from the hike we had lunch and the kids played in the sand and in the river. It was so relaxing and nice. I had a great day hanging out with my mom.
It was such a fun week playing with cousins and both grandma and grandpas. We are so blessed to have such great families!

Five Months Old!

My sweet baby girl is five months old. She just keeps getting cuter! She rolled from front to back last week and she pretty much automatically rolls over when I lay her down on her back now. She is getting to be a pretty good napper when we are home, but not so much when we are out and about. (I'm trying to stay home more to make sure she gets the nap schedule down but it is hard when there is so much going on all the time.) She is still getting up once at night, but most nights she makes it from about 9:00 pm until around 4:00 or 5:00 am and then she goes right back to sleep until 7:00 or 8:00 am. Not too bad. She doesn't laugh a whole lot, but when she does we all do whatever we can to get her to laugh again. She is very generous with the smiles though. She is starting to get a little bit of the stranger anxiety and will sometimes cry now when others want to hold her. I hate that stage! I was planning on starting her on cereal this week but then I decided to hold off until after our family reunion trip at the end of July to make it easier on myself.
